Student Life
Living in Riverside
The University has on-campus residence halls for single men and women, as well as married student housing. In addition, there are numerous modern apartments within a mile of the campus. Rents are lower than at most other major universities in California. Please contact the UCR Housing Office for more details.
The UCR campus is located at the foot of the Box Springs Mountains and at the edge of the city of Riverside, which has a population of 238,000. The park-like 1,200-acre campus is extensively landscaped with flora that thrives in the warm, semitropical climate of Riverside, and includes orange groves and palm trees. The average year-round temperature is 79 degrees, and freezing temperatures are rare.
Outside of work, you'll find that there's plenty to do in your free time in and around UCR. University Village is located next to the campus and features restaurants, stores, and a 10-screen theatre complex. Riverside has a symphony orchestra, opera association, theatre groups, and art centers. Los Angeles, the beaches, the desert, and alpine mountains with ski resorts are an hour away. Hiking, bicycle, and equestrian trails are available at nearby parks and reserves.
